It starts with the basic question.
What would you like it to do?
How does the user interact with it?
How can that interaction translate into another action? Keep it simple and repeat as needed.
Let me be clear, I am not a degreed engineer. (I’m pretty sure Henry Ford and the Wright brothers weren’t either.) But I am very good at making things work and have helped a certain toy company in New England make hundreds of millions of dollars in sales.
But sometimes even a great working concept must be cost reduced and simplified to meet margin goals. Hold on to it- you might be able to use it later.
Remember when all foam darts had suction cups? They were a lot of fun but proved problematic for magazines. So I came up with the first streamline dart tip.
